Inclusion Support at BEASTLY25
BEASTLY25 sees us move Inclusion up a gear!
At the Inclusion Hub, we will have two gazebos: one offering a quiet space for youth and adults who need time to gather their thoughts or regulate, and another dedicated to those who need space to pray during the day. We’re also lucky to be joined by Relax Kids – Kath and Children’s Yoga with Jackie, alongside our wonderful team of volunteers.
Our Inclusion Hub volunteers bring a range of experiences – some are parents of neurodivergent children, others have relevant work experience, and many simply bring a caring attitude and are learning as they go. Every volunteer is a valued part of the team.
Lanyards
This year, we’ve added two new icons to the lanyards:
M – Indicates more severe medical needs, such as allergies to penicillin, antibiotics, nuts, diabetes, or a history of seizures. These needs are only known to us if disclosed via the participant joining form. Relevant information has been shared appropriately for the day.
+ – Indicates an inclusion need, such as neurodivergence, hearing loss, or visual impairment.
A red/green communication card will be placed in the lanyard pocket for those who indicated a neurodivergent need. This card helps the young person express how they’re feeling if they are unable to do so verbally. It will also indicate a fast pass status, allowing them to skip queues for activities if needed.
Additional Support
-
Late arrival and early departure can be arranged to help individuals avoid crowds.
-
Quiet benches will be placed in activity zones. Leaders and volunteers will check in with anyone sitting there and can escort them to the Inclusion Hub if required.
-
Please provide ear defenders if your child is sensitive to noise. The sound from the stage and general event bustle may be overwhelming. We have a small number of spare ear defenders available at the Hub for emergencies only.
Prayer & Reflection Space
A prayer and reflection space is available for youth and adults who observe religious practices throughout the day. If you’d like to know more about how we integrate faith and prayer into Scouting, please contact:
We’d be happy to help support conversations within your section.
Finding the Inclusion Hub
Inclusion Hub volunteers will be wearing either white high-vis jackets marked Inclusion or a pink necker. A representative will be available at the check-in area, so older youth members can ask for directions to the Hub at the start of the day if they think they might need it later.
Preparing Before the Day
To help with expectations ahead of the event:
-
A Social Story is available here, which includes a list of activities in each zone and a picture of the Inclusion Hub.
-
Activities are also being shared on the Facebook page: BEASTLY – Scouts and GirlGuiding
